Oftentimes, parents/guardians do not know or understand their legal rights and protections when it comes to a child’s experiences in school - academically, behaviorally and social/emotionally. An strong advocate’s role is to listen, to learn, and to assist in ensuring that all students succeed.  

My experience includes 10 years as an education advocate, 30+ years in public schools (PK-12) as a teacher, school counselor, 504 Coordinator and school administrator. My advocacy experience includes family consultations, student records review, attendance at special education and 504 meetings and preparation and representation in formal dispute resolution through mediation.

I am the parent of a now young adult with disabilities and together with my husband, we worked long and hard to help him get the services, education and placement he needed. It is a often difficult process and for many, it is intimidating and frustrating. That is where having an advocate can help in so many ways, as a partner in helping you help your child.

Neal Pearson

Advocate

Neal Pearson is an educational leader and special education professional with more than 15 years of experience supporting students, families, and school teams across Connecticut. He holds a Master's degree in Special Education and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership and has served as a teacher, administrator, and Assistant Principal in both public and specialized educational settings.

Neal has extensive experience working with students with complex educational, behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs. His areas of expertise include special education law and compliance, IEP development and implementation, behavioral intervention planning, manifestation determinations, transition planning, and educational advocacy.

Throughout his career, Neal has facilitated hundreds of PPT meetings, supervised multidisciplinary teams, and partnered closely with families to ensure students receive appropriate supports and services. His combination of leadership experience and knowledge of special education systems allows him to help families navigate the educational process with confidence and clarity.

At Northeast Education Advocacy, Neal works alongside families to review educational records, analyze evaluations, prepare for meetings, and advocate for services and placements that support student success.
