How We Can Help

In 2015, I established Northeast Education Advocacy with the desire to help students of all ages succeed in academics and life activities and to feel confident in themselves and their abilities. Located in eastern Connecticut, we are open to helping all individuals in any location.

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) provides protection to students with disabilities to ensure that their abilities are matched with the support and services needed, allowing each individual to soar in achieving success in all areas of life.

Northeast Education Advocacy provides a range of services to individuals and families seeking advice, assistance and support.

Why work with an Advocate?

We all need support, advice and guidance when it comes to our own education as adults or the education and daily living activities of our children. We often find ourselves seeking answers.  We need to know:

What help is available to me or my child?

  • What are my legal rights?

  • Who in the school system do you contact?

  • What is the process for requesting services?

  • How should I respond when the school administrator tells me not to be concerned about my child's progress?

  • What are the differences between 504 services and special education services?

  • How will my child be evaluated?

  • What is an IEP? (Individualized Education Plan)

  • What is a PPT (Planning and Placement Team) and who attends these meetings?

  • Can someone attend a PPT or 504 meeting as the child's advocate?

Getting started

An initial phone call may help you clarify your questions and a listening ear may allay your concerns.  We are available to take that first call and offer assistance.  Call me at 860-604-8872 or email at Joanne@northeasteducationadvocacy.com

Testimonials

Trusted by students and parents for delivering quality education, practical learning, and lasting success.

  • “We contacted several advocates before finding Joanne and she was the first one to actually sit and talk to us about our family's needs. Joanne has helped us get improved supports for our family, answers all our questions in a timely manner and helps us feel empowered to advocate at our IEP and PPT meetings. She has knowledge of the law and practical experience with the needs of the kids. No regrets on this decision, we highly recommend her!”

  • “If you are searching for an advocate for your child look no further. Joanne changes the lives of children through her passion and dedication to ensure their educational needs are being met. Parents often lack the knowledge and understanding of their rights so are unable to negotiate for their child educational needs. Her understanding of the educational laws and ability to navigate the PPT process to create the best IEP or 504 was instrumental for my children. She holds everyone on the team accountable and is fearless in advocating for what is best for your child.”
